Improve the energy efficiency of your home...

Your home is a system made up of many parts like insulation, windows, doors and the heating system to name just a few that play an important role in the overall efficiency of every home.  Knowing which improvements are cost effective and have the highest return on investment can be difficult to understand if all factors are not considered equally.

A home energy audit is a complete inspection of each part of your home.   A comprehensive audit includes testing of combustion appliances for efficiency, metering of electric appliances and a review of your monthly utility bills.  Diagnostic testing using a blower door will determine how 'leaky' your home is, this includes windows, doors, furnace ducts and can help locate open chases or bypasses in the home.   Air leakage is often overlooked as the biggest contributor to energy usage.

Our home energy auditor can determine which improvements, based on savings to investment ratios, are the most cost effective before any money is spent.  Home owners regulary save 30% on utility costs after improving the efficiency of their home.  Rising utility rates combined with current rebates and tax incentives tend to raise one question.  If not now, when?

Tips to Save Energy Today

Easy low-cost and no-cost ways to save energy.
    *      Install a programmable thermostat to keep your house comfortably warm in the winter and comfortably cool in the summer.
    *      Use compact fluorescent light bulbs with the ENERGY STARŪ label.
    *      Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher's drying cycle.
    *      Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use.
    *      Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use (TVs and DVDs in standby mode still use several watts of power).
    *      Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater to 120°F.
    *      Take short showers instead of baths.
    *      Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.
    *      Look for the ENERGY STAR label on home appliances and products. ENERGY STAR products meet strict efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency.
